NC Botanical Garden Goblin Fest
Come out and join artist and gardener Forrest Greenslade in creating concrete mask sculptures of Gnomes, Nymphs, Elves, Pixies, Fairies, Trolls, Animals, and other magical woodland creatures. This Saturday morning workshop for young artists will show you how to sculpt in concrete and use recycled materials and found objects to create a sculpture mask. Bring your paper plates, sea shells, pebbles, and any other objects to add to your sculpture. The masks will be soft for two days, then hung for display during the Garden’s 2011 Sculpture in the Garden show. In 3 weeks your pieces will be cured and taken home for your own GobinFest. (Following the workshop, families may want to plan a picnic at the Garden, and visit the other Sculptures in the Garden). Advance registration is required. Fee: $15 ($10 NCBG members).

Voices From the Grave: Haunted Cemetery Tour
In 2010, the Voices from the Grave tour was highly successful and sold out weeks in advance. This year’s tour will bring back the same haunting tour and offer visitors an opportunity to meet new notables such as Cornelia Phillips Spencer, Horace Williams, Paul Green, and others.
Dark shadows and lantern light create the perfect mood for visitors to hear the words and the stories of those whose final resting place is below their feet. Not recommended for children under 12.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 day of event, they can be purchased by calling the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill at (919) 942-7818. Tours every 15 minutes.
